The Skill of Navigating Seasons

Have you ever stepped outside in the wrong outfit for the weather? A winter coat in summer or sandals in the rain? It’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, and even a little embarrassing. You feel exposed, unready, and caught off guard. The same goes for life. When we move through life unaware of the season we’re in—emotionally, spiritually, or practically—we risk making decisions that don’t fit. We show up to battles we weren’t meant to fight, or miss opportunities we were meant to seize. Walking in the wrong season, unaware of what it requires of you, can leave you frustrated, unprepared, and out of sync with God’s plans. Knowing your season isn’t just about awareness—it’s about alignment. It’s about responding to God’s timing with wisdom, patience, and faith.

Discerning Your Season

March 27, 2025

The key to moving effectively through life is discerning what season you are in and what God is asking of you. Ask yourself:

  • Have I discerned my current season?
  • Do I know what God requires of me in this season?
  • Am I seeking Him for clarity?

In the Bible, the sons of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel ought to do (1 Chronicles 12:32). Likewise, seasons aren’t random. Just as nature has planting and harvesting periods, our lives have rhythms:

  • Spring: A season of planting and investment.
  • Summer: Growth, hard work, and consistency.
  • Autumn: Harvest and preparation for the next cycle.
  • Winter: Rest, reflection, and strategic preparation.

Avoiding Premature Action

Sometimes, we rush into things before the season is right. Think of an egg incubating—if it hatches too soon, the chick might not survive. Likewise, launching prematurely makes you vulnerable. Instead of rushing, take time to nurture and prepare. Ask yourself: Is this my season to launch, rebrand, or retreat?

From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take.
